#Monday2Monday | As we wear green in solidarity with individuals experiencing sensory disabilities, let's remember that sensory processing differences can profoundly shape how someone perceives and interacts with the world around them.
Sensory disabilities encompass a range of conditions affecting various senses, including:
💚 Visual impairments like blindness and low vision; auditory impairments such as hearing loss and deafness;
💚Tactile impairments affecting the sense of touch; olfactory impairments impacting the sense of smell;
💚 Gustatory impairments alter the sense of taste;
💚Conditions like Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), where the brain has difficulty receiving and responding to sensory information.
These diverse experiences, though often unseen, are a vital part of their reality. Creating space for understanding and accommodation allows those with sensory disabilities to fully participate and thrive uniquely.

[NEWS]: Upcycled bottle caps form meaningful semicolon artwork at the Steve Biko Building
The artwork is a large semicolon crafted from an array of brightly coloured bottle caps. Just as the discarded bottle caps were repurposed and given a new function, the semicolon carries a profound message of resilience and choice.
In the realm of writing, a semicolon indicates a juncture where an author could have ended a sentence but chose to continue it. This mirrors the experience of individuals facing mental health challenges, where the semicolon serves as a potent reminder that even when faced with the darkest of thoughts, the choice to continue living remains.
We wore blue yesterday for the #monday2monday Movement, a colour representing emotional and psychiatric disabilities.

[WATCH]: The Bottlecap Semicolon Artwork at Steve Biko Building
Acknowledging today's #Monday2Monday blue theme for emotional and psychiatric disabilities, and echoing the spirit of continuation championed by the Counselling Centre and Residence Wellness Leaders, we wanted to highlight a meaningful artwork currently displayed at the Steve Biko Building.
This intricate bottlecap creation is a powerful visual reminder that something beautiful and significant can be created even from seemingly small and discarded pieces.
In the same way, even in the face of mental health challenges, there is always the potential for growth, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose.
We encourage everyone to take a moment today to visit the Steve Biko Building and reflect on this artwork and the enduring message of hope it embodies.
We have more on the story behind the artwork. Stay tuned! 💙
