Did you catch 's'il vous plait', the silver Ovation Award-winning cabaret that captivated audiences during the National Arts Festival Makhanda?
This unforgettable show, music directed by the talented Rhodes University Accompanist/Chamber Music coordinator Garreth Robertson and created by Mistress Mae Aisitahn-Yafais was a true highlight here in Makhanda. With its brassy vocals, nostalgic storytelling, and the sharpest of wit, it was truly a theatrical experience that sparkled from start to finish.
Congratulations to the entire team on this well-deserved recognition!

Established in 1945 with just a one-year Diploma in Physical Education, our Human Kinetics & Ergonomics Department has transformed into the dynamic, multidisciplinary hub it is today.
A pivotal shift in 1982 under Professor Jack Charteris saw a move towards a more science-focused approach, introducing the fascinating field of Ergonomics. Then, in 1996, Professor Pat Scott officially established the Department of Human Kinetics and Ergonomics (HKE) within the Science Faculty, all while still embracing students from the Humanities.

Associate Professor Ingrid Schudel's 'Layers of Light' exhibition during the National Arts Festival Makhanda invited viewers into the shared terrain of science and art – where order meets entropy, and predictability gives way to surprise.
Each piece was created through experimental dyeing with leaves, bark, roots, berries and lichens; further altered by reactions with found metals. No two outcomes were the same.
Artist and academic, Prof Schudel works at the edge of analytical reasoning and creative surrender. Her process embraced both the rigour of scientific inquiry and the wonder of the unexpected.
